Instructor: Tricia Pomroy Wednesday 4th November - 2nd December 1030 - 1130 Tai Chi is a traditional and ancient Chinese Martial Art. This martial art is 'internal' and soft - so is very different from 'external' martial arts such as Karate. Tai Chi brings harmony between the inner and outer self through the integration of the mind and body. In Tai Chi you achieve strength through softness (this may seem counter intuitive at first) but experienced players/practitioners of Tai Chi are able to demonstrate how this works in real life. You begin to see how you can get more done with less effort. One key benefits many people find is that the skills and mindset you learn In Tai Chi are transferable to everyday life and tasks. Tai Chi is a slow, meditative and graceful dance like form of movement. It looks easy to do, yet when you first start practicing it you find it calls upon muscles, energy, balance, focus and control. The practise of Tai Chi helps improve your posture, breathing, focus, flexibility and balance. It has also been shown to help people relax and reduce stress (and for many others gave them a greater sense of inner-confidence). During the course you will experience the foundational elements needed to help you on your Tai Chi journey: - Specific Breathing exercises that help you become more centred and grounded - Dao In (a form of Chinese self-massage to stimulate flow of chi around the meridian system) - Ba Duan Jin (a health & fitness exercise routine coordinating specially devised movements with the breath) - Daoist Relaxation & Strengthening exercises - Tai Chi walking (this helps your balance, develops leg strength and postural awareness) · Demonstration of the Golden Flower Short Form · You will learn the beginning sequence of this Yang Style Form
